The sky right now
What the sky is doing at this instant, computed — and where it lands in a chart, one link away.
As of 2026-09-28 10:53 UTC the Sun is at 5.3° Libra and the Moon at 27.7° Aries, full at 96.2% illumination; 4 of the ten classical bodies are retrograde (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). The next event in the sky is moon enters Taurus on 28 Sep 2026. Everything on these pages is the sky itself — geocentric tropical positions from Skyfield and JPL DE440 — with no birth chart involved; each instrument hands off to the chart-specific reading.

What this means for everyone
Two questions, two layers
Where is Saturn right now is a question about the sky, and it has one answer for everyone. What is Saturn doing to my chart is a question about a relationship between the sky and a fixed set of points, and it has a different answer for every birth. These pages answer the first kind — live positions, retrograde status, the phase of the Moon, the coming lunations and sign changes — and every one of them ends by handing the second kind to the natal layer, where the transit hubs date each contact by natal sign and the app dates them to the degree.
What is computed, and how
Positions come from Skyfield and JPL DE440 at the instant a page loads. Stations, sign changes and lunations are computed ahead of time on a lattice of positions and printed as UTC instants rather than as dates in someone's time zone — which is why two sites can disagree by a day and this one prints minutes. The frame is stated on every page because the top-ranking answer to many of these questions is a sidereal table: tropical zodiac, geocentric, UTC.
What it does not do
It does not read the twelve signs one by one, and it does not tell anyone what to avoid. The instrument dates and measures the sky; where a lunation falls in a chart, or whether a retrograde arc contains a natal degree, is the question the chart answers — and that is the handoff.

Common questions
- Which planets are retrograde right now?
- Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto as of 2026-09-28 10:53 UTC. The positions page recomputes the answer when it loads.
- What sign is the Moon in today?
- Aries, at 27.7° Aries as of 2026-09-28 10:53 UTC, full and 96.2% illuminated.
- Are these positions tropical or sidereal?
- Tropical — measured from the March equinox point, the Western convention. A sidereal table shows every body roughly 24° earlier, which is why two sites can name different signs for the same planet on the same day.
- Do I need a birth chart for any of this?
- No. The sky is the same for everyone and these pages describe only the sky. A birth chart is what turns a position into a transit; enter one and the app dates each contact between the current sky and your natal points.
The words on this page
Every term this layer uses has a definition in the research library — what it means, and what it means for a chart.
