A live sky chart shows where the planets are, not where they were when a page was published. Cosmic KPI’s Your Sky draws the current sky as a three-dimensional scene — a heliocentric view of the orbits with real distances compressed onto a readable scale, and a geocentric view of the ecliptic as seen from Earth — with a clock ticking in your own time zone, positions recomputed every minute from the ephemeris, and the transits to your natal chart computed at the same instant the clock displays, so the map and the transit list can never disagree about when now is.

How it works
Two views of one sky
The heliocentric view is the solar system from above the ecliptic: the Sun at the centre, Mercury out to Pluto on their orbits, Earth among them. Real distances would put Pluto forty times further out than Earth and make the inner planets a single dot, so distance is compressed logarithmically — inner and outer planets share one readable field without the ordering or the proportions being falsified. The geocentric view is the astrologer’s frame: the ecliptic as a flat ring around the Earth, each body at its zodiacal longitude, which is the geometry every aspect on the page is measured in. You can switch between them; the same positions drive both.
Two styles render the same scene. A simple mode uses the app’s encoding colours, the same hues that mark each planet everywhere else. A realistic mode gives each world a believable surface and atmosphere, with public-domain imagery from NASA and JPL where it exists and a procedural look where it does not — so the sky is fully drawn before any texture loads, and a texture only upgrades it. Faint overlays trace the long orbital resonances between planet pairs, such as Neptune and Pluto’s three-to-two lock, as slowly drawn patterns in the field.
Live means computed now
The clock ticks every second in the observer’s time zone with the place name beside it. The positions are recomputed once a minute — planets move far more slowly than that; even the Moon covers about a hundredth of a degree in a minute — so the transit list stays mathematically in step with the displayed time without hammering the ephemeris. Without a saved location the clock falls back to the browser’s zone and offers the account settings to set one.
The transits at this instant
Beside the scene sits the list: first the sky’s own aspects — planet to planet, the geometry everyone shares — and then the aspects the sky is making to your natal points, each with its orb to two decimals. Hovering a row lights the corresponding line on the map; clicking a transit-to-natal aspect opens the same Focus panel the timeline and the terminal use, with the contact’s full case. The natal chart is the one on your account; signed out, it is the sample chart, and the page says so.
What it is for
A wheel is a diagram; this is a place. Seeing Mars on the far side of the Sun from Earth, or the outer planets bunched in one quadrant of the ecliptic, is a different kind of understanding from reading their longitudes — and the transit list beside it keeps that understanding tied to your own chart rather than floating free of it.
