Pluto transits

♇ — the slowest contact in the chart, with the dates computed.

Pluto transits are the contacts transiting Pluto makes to the points of your birth chart. Pluto takes about 245 years to cross the zodiac and its speed varies more than any other planet's, so a single contact can stay inside 3° of orb for years. Pluto is at 3.6° Aquarius as of 2026-08-24, retrograde since 2026-05-06 and direct again 2026-10-16.

measured at 244.62 years on a 597-year baseline. Pluto's orbit is eccentric enough that its time per sign ranges from about twelve years to over thirty.

How Pluto appears in Cosmic KPI

Pluto is the flattest signal on the pressure timeline and the longest: months or years of slightly raised baseline rather than a peak, which is exactly why a chart-wide instrument reads it better than a date does. The terminal shows the live orb so you can see it closing across a whole year rather than only on the day it perfects.

Common questions

How long does a Pluto transit last?
A median 192 days inside the 3° envelope, and the slowest tenth run past 1152 days — more than three years for one contact. That range is Pluto's orbital eccentricity: near perihelion it moves about three degrees a year, near aphelion barely half of one, so the same 6° of orb takes wildly different amounts of time to cross.
How often does Pluto retrograde?
Once a year, for about 162 days, retracing only 2.4° — the smallest retrograde arc of any planet. That is why Pluto contacts almost never perfect just once: the loop is slow enough that the body crosses the same degree three or five times.
How long is Pluto in one sign?
Between about twelve and thirty years, depending on the sign — this is the planet where "one twelfth of the orbit" is most misleading. The ingress table below is computed, so it gives the actual dates rather than an average.
Will Pluto ever transit my Sun?
Only if your Sun's degree falls in the arc Pluto crosses during your lifetime — roughly thirty to fifty degrees. For a given degree the conjunction comes round about once every 245 years, so most charts never receive one, and the ones that do receive it once. The tables on the individual contact pages say which Sun signs are in range and when.
