Venus is a faculty, not a cast of characters

The natal Venus placement marks how a chart values: what it is drawn towards, what it treats as worth having, what it finds beautiful. Relationships and money are where that faculty becomes visible, which is why every Venus transit gets written up as a forecast about one or the other. It is worth resisting that collapse. The geometry describes a principle of valuation being contacted; who is in the room is not in the chart.

The one aspect with no distance in it

At 0° there is no separation to interpret. The tradition reads a conjunction as fusion — the transiting body operating from inside the natal point's own degree rather than addressing it from elsewhere — and consequently as the opening of a cycle rather than an episode within one. Whatever the next twenty-nine years of Saturn's squares and opposition to this Venus are read as testing, the classical account puts its origin here.

What Saturn asks of a valuing faculty

Saturn's principle is time, limit and consequence: what has to be built to last, kept up, or relinquished. Set against Venus, the tradition's reading is of value being asked to survive duration — a demand for what holds up rather than a judgement on what does not. That framing matters because the popular version of this contact is uniformly gloomy, and the gloom is an interpretive habit rather than something in the geometry. What the geometry supplies is a dated window; the rest is reading.

How long it holds

A median 60 days inside three degrees, 80% of windows between 46 and 167 days, longest observed 193. Measured over 233 windows on 2020-01-01–2065-01-01, daily lattice. Notably these are the same durations Saturn's squares and trines to any point produce — at a fixed orb envelope, how long a contact lasts is set by how fast the body is travelling when it arrives, not by which angle it makes. The aspect changes what is read; the clock is the planet's.

Once per orbit, which makes it comparable

Saturn returns to a given degree a median 29.1 years apart, so a normal lifespan holds two or three of these conjunctions. That is an unusual frequency band. Faster contacts recur too often to stand out in a memory; the outer planets recur too rarely to be compared with anything. Two or three occurrences is the range where a reader can actually set one against another — which is the only kind of check this material admits of.

One crossing or three

Of 1427 decidable contacts, 660 perfected once and 767 three times. Which you get depends on whether Saturn's annual retrograde loop catches the contact. Never two: the crossing count in one visit is always odd. A three-crossing passage spreads the same contact across dates months apart, and the classical use of that structure is comparison rather than repetition — the middle crossing is the retrograde one.
