How Cosmic KPI plots the major timing windows of a life — Saturn return, Jupiter return, nodal return, Uranus opposition, Chiron return and more — from your birth chart.
A life cycle is the recurring return of a slow-moving planet to a hard angle with its own position in your birth chart. Because each planet takes a fixed time to circle the zodiac, those angles land at predictable ages — a deterministic timing skeleton for a life. Cosmic KPI treats each window as a record you can inspect, not a fortune: it marks when a structural chapter opens, peaks and closes, and leaves the meaning to you.
The app reads the longitude of the relevant point in your natal chart, then advances each planet by its mean orbital period to find every quarter-turn: the opening square, the opposition, the closing square and the return itself. That gives an approximate age window the instant your chart loads — no waiting on a scan. Where precise transit timing is available, a window upgrades to exact peak dates (including the retrograde passes a slow planet makes back over the point) without changing what it means.
Saturn takes about 29½ years to return to its birth position, so its cycle sets the classic "growing up" passages. The opening square falls around age 7, the opposition around 14–15, the closing square around 21–22, and the first Saturn return around 29½ — the signature restructuring of career, relationships and responsibility. A second return arrives near 59. These are the windows most people mean by "Saturn return," and the first pack Cosmic KPI ships.
Jupiter circles back roughly every 12 years (near ages 12, 24, 36, 48, 60), marking a cycle of growth, expansion and renewed opportunity. Read as timing rather than luck, a Jupiter return is a useful checkpoint for where you want to widen scope.
The lunar nodes move backwards through the zodiac and complete one full regression in about 18.6 years, so a nodal return recurs near ages 18–19, 37 and 55–56. It is often read as a checkpoint on direction and the through-line of a chapter.
Uranus takes about 84 years to orbit, so it reaches the point opposite its birth position around age 40–42 — the "midlife" awakening. Cosmic KPI plots it as one window among the set, so it reads in context rather than as a crisis.
Chiron has a long, eccentric orbit averaging about 50 years, so its return lands near age 50 — commonly framed as a return to, and reckoning with, a long-carried theme. Its timing is approximate by nature, which the app labels honestly.
Beyond the big returns, shorter retrograde windows — Mercury, Venus, Mars and the outer planets turning apparently backwards — form their own pack. Each window is computed from daily ephemeris positions: station retrograde, station direct, and the shadow periods on either side, read as review-and-revisit indicators rather than warnings.
Eclipses arrive in seasons roughly every six months and act as acceleration windows — compressed new and full moons on the nodal axis. The Eclipse Pack lists real computed eclipses (type, sign and degree) and flags the ones that land within a few degrees of a natal planet or angle, which is when an eclipse is classically read as personally significant.
Every window is journal-ready. From the Life Cycles page you can write an entry linked to a specific return or square: past windows prompt reflection ("what changed, what did you build, what repeated later?"), upcoming windows prompt preparation ("what area of life is entering review?"). The entry is a single record that also appears on your Journal timeline, tagged with the cycle so you can filter and look back.
When a window has a computed peak date, you can add that peak to your calendar with one intentional click. The marker targets the peak while the card still shows the broader active window, so you keep the context. Nothing is written silently, and a window whose peak is not yet computed simply can’t be exported until it is.
A cycle window is a source object the whole instrument can read. Inspect it to jump to the surrounding transits, open the peak day on your calendar, write or read linked journal entries, or open the underlying interpretation in Research. Because it is time-anchored, the same window can later line up against family timing in Connections — one dataset, several lenses.
